About the Westgate Sentinel

In an era where governments and tech giants increasingly wield censorship as a tool of control, the Westgate Sentinel emerges as a beacon of uncompromised truth-telling. Founded by James Westgate Snell, a Canadian journalist, this independent news service stands firm against the tide of authoritarianism and state-funded media monopolies.

Snell's storied career began in the rugged terrains of British Columbia and Yukon, where he swung axes and rock hammers as a mineral exploration technician before pivoting to journalism. Armed with an honours diploma from SAIT and a degree from Athabasca University, he honed his craft through scholarships for excellence, including the Jason Lang and Elaine Taylor Thomas awards. His bylines grace the Winnipeg Sun and Western Standard, where he served as a city hall and Manitoba / Alberta Legislative reporter.

In 2025, amid escalating pressures like his ejection from a Prime Minister Carney event, he launched the Sentinel: a platform for raw, reader-supported journalism.
