A British IT consultant was arrested and released on bail after police raided his Yorkshire home over a LinkedIn photo of him legally firing a shotgun during a Florida holiday.

Jon Richelieu-Booth, 50, posted the image showing him holding a Remington 870 at a private U.S. shooting range while wearing a “Guns & God” T-shirt. West Yorkshire Police arrested him eleven days later on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and stalking, seizing phones and laptops in a 13-week investigation (The Telegraph).

Despite Richelieu-Booth providing geolocation evidence proving the picture was taken abroad, officers held him overnight and questioned neighbours.

All firearm-related allegations were later dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (Daily Mail). The case, branded an “Orwellian nightmare” by the father-of-two, has reignited debate over Britain’s Online Safety Act and social-media policing.
