A high-stakes vote in the House of Commons will determine whether Prime Minister Mark Carney’s chief of staff and the CEO of Brookfield Asset Management are ordered to testify before Parliament over alleged conflicts of interest and offshore financial holdings.

Conservative MP Michael Barrett announced the vote Monday on X, saying Canadians deserve answers about the prime minister’s past ties to Brookfield, where he once served as chair.

“Carney’s company pocketed billions while he benefits from tax havens at the expense of Canadians,” Barrett wrote. “There must be accountability.”

The motion sets up a potential showdown in Ottawa, as the NDP and Bloc Québécois weigh whether to join Conservatives in forcing testimony—a move that could threaten the stability of Carney’s minority Liberal government.

"The prime minister lectures Canadians about sacrifice, while his inner circle cashes in from tax havens abroad," said Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman on X.

The vote is expected within hours or days, with opposition parties demanding transparency on the prime minister’s signifiant financial history, which includes company dealings with Communist China.
