On August 27 a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis left two children, ages 8 and 10, dead and 17 others injured, including 14 students.
The incident occurred during a morning Mass, when the suspect, identified by authorities as a man in his early 20s, fired through church windows before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Evidence is emerging of the suspected shooter in Minneapolis and appears to be psychotic, manic 22-year-old young man, possibly trans, who left an 11-minute manifesto video on YouTube just hours before the shooting happened,” wrote American conservative pundit Charlie Kirk on social media.
“The video has been taken down. The suspect wrote notes on the weapons he used including "Kill Trump Now!" "McVeigh," "Where is Your God?" "Burn Israel" and "6 million was not enough." He had a human-shaped target with Jesus's face attached to it.”
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara reported that the suspect, tentatively identified on social media as Robin Westman, left behind writings referencing suicide and violent thoughts, though these claims remain unverified by law enforcement.
Social media posts have circulated unconfirmed claims that the shooter was transgender and motivated by anti-Christian sentiment, with some alleging a magazine with “Kill Donald Trump” written on it was found.
However, authorities have not confirmed these reports. Chief O’Hara emphasized that the suspect’s gender identity is irrelevant to the ongoing investigation, urging the public to avoid speculative biases.
The shooting, which took place at 8:30 a.m. CDT, marked the fifth school shooting in the U.S. in 2025. The Annunciation Catholic School, serving prekindergarten through eighth grade, was evacuated, and students were reunited with families at a nearby church.
Two of the injured children remain in critical condition, with victims treated at Children’s Minnesota Hospital and Hennepin Healthcare.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and local sports teams expressed heartbreak, calling the violence “senseless.” The investigation continues.
