African Americans are praising U.S. President Donald Trump for cleaning up DC and making streets safer.

“I don’t have to look over my shoulder any more,” said one man in a video posted to X. While another said, “Just look at it. Nobody hanging out. Just clean.”

Trump revealed plans to request $2 billion from Congress to revitalize the nation’s capital, focusing on infrastructure and aesthetics. Speaking to reporters on August 22, Trump declared, “We’re going to be raising about $2 billion from Congress, and Congress is happy to do it,” aiming to “have this place beautified within a period of 12 months.”

The initiative targets rusting light poles, graffiti-covered bridges, and deteriorating park grass. Trump emphasized, “It hasn’t been clean. Now it’s going to be clean,” while outlining plans to repave streets and enhance public spaces.

The move follows Trump’s federal takeover of D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department and deployment of National Guard troops to address crime.

Critics, including 65% of D.C. residents polled, doubt the plan’s effectiveness, citing sufficient existing budgets.

Trump remains confident, saying, “We’re going to have the best capital ever.”

The proposal awaits Congressional approval amid ongoing debates over D.C.’s autonomy.
