Conservative Party of Canada Leader Pierre Poilievre has rebuked CBC journalist Erin Collins during a scrum, flipping an attempted gotcha question into an exposé of the public broadcaster’s failure to issue an on-air correction for a false assault allegation made by former Conservative MP Chris d'Entremont against Conservative MPs.
d'Entremont recently crossed the floor to the Liberals, igniting a firestorm of controversy across Canada. He said two Conservative MPs barged into his office, "pushed" his assistant, and yelled. His move brings the Carney Liberals closer to a majority in the House of Commons ahead of the upcoming budget vote.
Collins pressed Poilievre on d'Entremont accusing the Conservatives of running the party like a "frat house."
Poilievre countered: “CBC has had to correct the falsehoods that they put into that story,” referring to d'Entremont’s claims aired during a CBC broadcast.
“So, I encourage you to tell Canadians about the falsehoods you published and explain why you did that,” Poilievre said.
CBC later made online corrections but has not broadcast an on-air retraction, despite the allegations airing live to a national audience.
